Renée J. Lukas

Renée Lukas is a comedy writer.  An optioned screenwriter. A published author. And many say, a great person to be around… unless you’re talking about camping. In the woods. Renée will never camp in the woods because she’s seen The Edge way too many times.

Originally from Tennessee, Renée now lives in New England because it has the best lobster. Years ago, she couldn’t survive the guilt of leaving her family for L.A., so she studied film at Wright State University in Ohio, at what is now The Tom Hanks Center for Motion Pictures. She earned a B.A. in Motion Picture History, Theory and Criticism and went on to study at the Master’s level at UCLA Extension, Writing the Feature Film. She’s had two offers from major studios for television projects she developed with a top producer (known for his work in Lord of the Rings, The Green Lantern, Knowing, and children’s programming).

Here are a few of Renée’s claims to fame:

  • Nicholl Quarterfinalist — a  fellowship sponsored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
  • Semifinalist in the Slamdance TV Pilot competition
  • Quarterfinalist in The Big Break Screenwriting Competition
  • Quarterfinalist in Scriptapalooza Screenwriting Competition
  • Quarterfinalist in the Screencraft Comedy Funding Competition
  • Top 50 Finalist in ISA Fast Track Fellowship (International Screenwriters Association)

Even more exciting things Renée has done:

Renée was a script reader for the BlueCat screenwriting competition and a screenwriting instructor for a professional development program. She has worked with an award-winning producer on scripted content for film and television, live action and animation. She has guest lectured for an online program at TUS (Technological University of the Shannon) in Ireland, and has participated in virtual writers’ rooms to help work on other writers’ pitches and elements of the craft.  Oh, and that saying about living in L.A.? Maybe Massachusetts should be added to that saying, because Renée has worked with professionals from L.A. to the U.K.

Last but definitely not least, Renée is the author of four published novels (Bella Books):  The Comfortable Shoe DiariesHurricane DaysSouthern Girl and In Her Eyes, all available at Bella Books and Amazon. Southern Girl was selected as one of “The Top 10 Best Lesbian Novels of 2016” by The Lesbian Review. A fifth one, The Big Guilt, is due out next spring 2025. Note to readers: No two books are alike, but they are all funny with plenty of angst and twists.

Keep checking back for more developments as they happen…
